Alan James Illies

The Print/Graphics industry lost 'one of the really good guys" on October 26th, 2013. Alan James Illies passed away shortly after celebrating his 76th birthday on October 8th. Personally, I lost a great friend and mentor who gave me a start in the sales arena. Al was the first Branch Manager for J.E. McCutcheon in Toronto in the mid 70's. He came from Pako Corporation and moved his young family to Toronto from Minneapolis. Al had a very good eye for people and talent. He assembled an incredibly successful team of Sales, Technical, Service and Administrative people who helped him build a dynasty in the 70's and 80's capturing a major market share in film, plates, colour proofing, chemistry and hardware / software for manufacturers such as Fuji, Pako, Macbeth, HCM, Opti Copy, DS, Ternes, Crosfield, Auto Printex, Hunt Chemical etc. J.E. McCutcheon became McCutcheon Graphics and in the 90's was purchased by Fuji Film. Al's legacy lives on through all the people he touched in those wonderful years and many retained friendships. Thanks for the memories Al. You will not be forgotten.
